The Saint Benedict medal is a Christian sacramental medal that contains iconography related to Saint Benedict of Nursia. It is used by Catholic, Anglican, and in some Lutheran, Western Methodist, and Orthodox communities.
It is one of the oldest medals in Christendom, and those who wear it believe that it has power against evil. The obverse of the medal presents an image of Benedict of Nursia and the reverse has, among other things, the initials of the phrase Vade retro satana, a Catholic formula of medieval origin that derives from a phrase in the Gospel of Mark.
In Latin America also there is a big devotion to Saint Benedict (San Benito)
The pewter San Benito medals, and natural stones are held by a satin rat tail cord in different colors.
